At present, more than 85% of the power tools used worldwide are manufactured in China, and many components of foreign‑made power tools are also produced in China. China’s power tool exports account for approximately 40% of the global total.
For many years, China’s power tools have been primarily exported, with exports accounting for 85% to 90% of total production and domestic sales representing 10% to 15%. Despite the substantial volume of domestic power tools shipped overseas, their share of the domestic market remains above 90%.
According to data from the Ubo Zhiye Market Research Center, China is a major producer and exporter of hardware tools. Among electric tools sold worldwide, the majority are manufactured and exported from China, making the country a leading global supplier in this sector. Despite the substantial size of China’s hardware‑tool industry, many manufacturers lack core competitiveness and struggle to scale up and strengthen their positions, owing to weak technological innovation, an overly homogeneous market structure, and limited brand influence.
Electric tools are used in the same way as pneumatic tools and are often even more convenient to operate. They offer advantages such as a compact, refined design, long service life, high safety, and energy efficiency. Overall, they currently come in a wide range of models and specifications, including rotary hammers, gun drills, polishers, impact wrenches, and more.
Although China’s power‑tool industry has experienced rapid growth in recent years, it still lags behind its international counterparts. To further advance the sector, technological innovation is of paramount importance. As a high‑tech industry, power tools require companies to proactively adopt cutting‑edge technologies to strengthen their technical capabilities.
The power tools industry is part of the advanced equipment manufacturing sector, bolstering the broader advanced service‑manufacturing landscape. Power tools are extensively used in cutting-edge manufacturing fields such as aerospace, high-speed rail construction, shipbuilding, and automotive production, as well as in sectors like road construction, interior decoration, wood processing, and metalworking.
According to the “China Power Tools Industry Market Supply and Demand Forecast and Development Prospects Report,” under normal circumstances, the domestic power tools sector is dominated by companies that manufacture consumer‑grade, do‑it‑yourself electric tools. Professional‑grade product lines are extremely rare, resulting in low industry concentration and a lack of leading enterprises. Looking ahead, as domestic brands gain experience and the industry undergoes restructuring, a handful of top-tier players will emerge, ushering in a more standardized and orderly market landscape. Meanwhile, both domestic and international brands will reallocate market shares, with Chinese brands continuing to displace foreign ones. Internal consolidation within the industry will further strengthen the position of leading firms.
Improving product mix and overall service capabilities, the power‑tool market is performing well; however, the domestic power‑tool sales market remains underdeveloped, with standards in place for power tools—particularly the most traditional high‑speed models—and for general‑purpose carbide‑tipped tools.
The power‑tool industry is actively adopting advanced technologies to strengthen its capabilities. In recent years, China’s rapid economic growth and the integration of its foreign‑exchange market have spurred swift expansion in the sector; however, compared with leading international firms, it may still lag behind. Industry experts emphasize that technological innovation is crucial for the sector’s accelerated development. Given the high‑tech nature of the power‑tool industry, companies must proactively acquire cutting‑edge technologies to bolster their competitiveness.
Enhance product quality and accelerate new‑product development. Special emphasis is placed on speeding up the advancement of battery‑powered tools and electronically controlled power tools, continuously improving the quality of power tools and related products.
